Where Bolt is great and where it leaves you
Bolt's WebContainers tech runs the dev server fully in the browser, so iteration feels instant. The downside is everything Bolt does not run server side: persistent databases, secure secrets, scheduled jobs, file uploads beyond a session.
You hit those limits the moment you build something with real users. Then you need an alternative that handles the full stack or a service that picks up where Bolt stops.
Six alternatives, scored on what matters
1. Lovable
Most direct competitor. Server side container means real database, real backend, real auth. Slightly slower iteration than Bolt but a more complete app at the end.
Pick if: you need persistent storage and real auth from day one. Skip if: Bolt's speed is the main draw.
2. v0 by Vercel
Different beast. v0 is a component generator, not a full app builder. Best in class for React component output. Pair it with a Next.js scaffold for full app work.
Pick if: you write some React already and want top tier components. Skip if: you want a builder that runs the whole app for you.
3. Replit Agent
Cloud IDE plus AI agent plus hosting in one. Best end to end story for someone who wants to build and ship without leaving one tool. Code quality is uneven.
Pick if: you want one app for everything and one bill. Skip if: you care about clean code or migrating later.
4. Cursor
AI first code editor. You drive, Cursor assists. Output is a normal repo, deployable anywhere. Steeper but more powerful.
Pick if: you can read code or want to start. Skip if: you avoid editors entirely.
5. Claude Code
Best raw code quality of any AI coder right now. Runs in your terminal. The output is the most production ready of the lot.
Pick if: you have terminal experience or want top quality. Skip if: CLI is not for you.
6. Tempo Labs
Newer entry, focuses on visual editing of React UIs with AI assist. Good for designers who want to manipulate the layout directly.
Pick if: you think visually and want layout level control. Skip if: you want to type prompts.

The deployment story matters more than the builder
Whichever tool you pick, the moment you have real users you need: a custom domain, monitoring, backups, secrets management, scaling, security review. None of these tools handle all of that.
Ployed is where you take the code from any of these and get a managed deploy with human review. Read about managed deployment for AI apps or our Lovable alternatives guide.
Which would we pick?
Non technical, fast first prototype: stay on Bolt for week one, move to Lovable when you need real auth and storage.
Some technical comfort, building for paying users: Cursor or Claude Code, with Ployed for production.
